Venice Canals, was the first of a two part series on the Venice Canals of Venice Beach, California. This iconic LA neighborhood is tucked in the heart of Venice, just a couple blocks off the beach, but you would never know it's there unless you go looking for it. It's one of my favorite spots to go for a walk and enjoy my local community. I knew I wanted to paint the canals and headed in one evening to shoot some photos for inspiration. What I ran into was a little production team shooting a video of guys in Pac Man and Ghost suites running through the maze of the canals. It was exactly what I was looking for. As Venice Beach morphs into Silicon Beach, the new Southern California tech hub, I couldn't capture a more perfect moment. It was Pac Man, after all, which ushered in the tech/computer/gaming revolution of the 1980's. Before I ever caught Chicken Pox, I had Pac Man Fever! It is also a nod to those in the community who are trying to keep some semblance of the old hood from being taken over by tech bros and hipsters, where the locals play the role of ghosts chasing the techies around town, played by Pac Man.
